Ask Delaware County Council Members to Prioritize the Circuit Trails

Take action today by sending a letter to Delaware County's council members to prioritize available funding sources to advance the Circuit Trails. Congress has taken several significant actions that will send an infusion of federal funding to Pennsylvania for infrastructure and economic recovery. Funding from the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) is already flowing into cities and counties, while the recently passed bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) (H.R.3684) will soon create even more new opportunities.

That is why the Circuit Trails Coalition is asking you to send a letter today to your county council members asking them to prioritize the Circuit Trails as they begin to plan how best to use new federal funds. It’s imperative that your council members position the Circuit Trails as a viable investment to advance the network and enhance the region's active transportation system.

Over the past few months, Congress has taken several significant actions that will send an infusion of federal funding to our state for infrastructure and economic recovery. Funding from the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) is already flowing into cities and counties, while the recently passed bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) (H.R.3684) will soon create even more new opportunities.

By investing in our trails, there’s an opportunity for you to put the people first and take a step toward enhancing our active transportation system for future generations.

Across the region, there’s strong momentum on the side of trails, walking and biking. This once-in-a-generation funding opportunity must be harnessed and allocated toward the advancement of the Circuit Trails network. By building on the momentum of the people’s modal-shift to biking and walking, you can build upon a growing network where more people are using active transportation to reach their destination.

This trail network is a powerful tool for our region: it is essential infrastructure that provides equitable access to outdoor recreation and the community, helps reduce carbon emissions by making space for people to safely travel by foot or bike, is a notable component to our active transportation system, and contributes to the economic health of the Greater Philadelphia area. I am a user of the Circuit Trails and support all efforts by municipalities, the county, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, nonprofit partners and your office to close key gaps and complete trail segments within our county.

As you plan and prepare to access these federal funding sources, please prioritize -Circuit Trails- projects. By doing so, you would help deliver regional benefits, such as economic development, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and improved equitable mobility options. By advancing the Circuit Trails network, you are enhancing our health, safety, mobility, and equitable and economic accessibility in the county and throughout our region.
