Goal

It's time to pass Parking-Protected Bike Lanes!

HB 291 passed the Pennsylvania House and it is now in the Pennsylvania Senate, please sign this petition to tell your state senator to support this bill.

Parking-protected bike lanes are a cost effective way to create more protected bike lanes and reduce all roadway crashes.

The legislation would give municipalities and PennDOT the option to build these lanes. It does not mandate their use. In 2017, PennDOT created a pilot program in Philadelphia to test the efficacy of parking-protected bike lanes and a report found that ridership was up, crashes were down, and there was minimal impact to traffic flow.

Read more about the history; thank you to Nicole Brunet for writing about the history of this legislation.

Join us in calling for the legalization of parking-protected bike lanes across the Commonwealth today!

Giving municipalities and PennDOT the option to build parking protected bike lanes is common sense. This type of infrastructure is proven to reduce crashes, increase safe bike ridership, and have minimal impact on traffic speeds or parking. It is a critical tool that countless municipaties across the country utilize and it's time Pennsylvania does too.

Philadelphia is woefully behind the times on creating safe infrastructure for bicycling and pedestrians. This is a much needed step towards giving our citizens greater transit freedom and safer roads.
